It takes a skilled artisan one day to create this boldly patterned silk velvet pillow. An exquisite example of traditional weaving, the black dye bleeds into the gold ground, creating abstract designs resembling cityscapes, bridges and mountain ranges.The intricate process starts with drawing the desired pattern by hand on the warp and weft yarns. Next, the yarn bundles are painstakingly dyed in particular spots so the colors seep through, creating the pattern. The artisan then unties the bundles of yarns, which are strung on a loom and woven.
