Inspired by Japanese art, "Maruwa" borrows from the traditions of calligraphy and paper collage to play counterpoint to the otherwise modern work. Dynamic black brushstrokes sharply contrast with paper collage embellishments on a neutral ground, revealing a tonal composition rich with tactile dimension. "I wanted to incorporate elements of calligraphy and raw materials with a sensibility of wabi-sabi," Patrick St. Germain explains. Reproduced here to emulate the artist's original techniques.
